POSITION SUMMARY

The Network Engineer I will work closely with the VP of Network Infrastructure, Network Engineering Team Members, and other CU*Answers based teams such as Client Support and Operations, Computer Operations, and Client Services to ensure our daily operations and client interactions. The Network Engineer I will work with a team of engineers and serve as a path for escalation for the Client Support and Operations team. The Network Engineer I position will also be leading internal and external projects from management handoff through to completion.

The ability to apply independent judgment is critical in managing complex tasks and making decisions that directly impact the organization's success. This includes assessing situations, analyzing available information, and evaluating potential risks and benefits to determine the best course of action. The individual in this role is expected to make well-informed decisions without constant supervision, addressing challenges with confidence and ensuring alignment with organizational goals and values. This function involves balancing competing priorities, managing ambiguity, and handling urgent or sensitive matters with discretion.

Essential Job Functions

  • The Network Engineer I is expected to have basic competency in all:
  • Network Devices: Design, installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of network devices.
  • Linux Servers: Design, installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of Linux Servers, including applications on those systems.
  • Windows Servers: Design, installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of Windows Servers and applications on those systems.
  • Evaluate and maintain a high level of security and audit compliance throughout the CU*Answers network.
  • Work with Client Support and Operation Team, CU*Answers staff, and clients to troubleshoot possible networking and systems related issues.
  • Design and troubleshooting of CU*Answers managed client LANs, WANs, and servers.
  • Maintain certifications from appropriate vendors so as to maintain and improve partner status.
  • Analyze products and recommend use of new technologies and services to management.
  • Create relevant project documentation, including troubleshooting and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Exercise extensive independent judgment to assess complex situations, analyze information, and make decisions that align with organizational goals.
  • Manage multiple priorities effectively, demonstrating discretion and sound decision-making across all responsibilities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support organizational goals and evolving business needs.

JOB Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent is required. Equivalent experience would be at least 2-3 years of working experience in IT.
  • Two-year business-related degree or equivalent work experience is preferred.
  • Experience and comfort working with computer software
  • Ability to learn and explore new software independently.
  • Experience with the CU*Answers’ CU*BASE system preferred, but not required.
  • Familiarity with credit union operations, regulations and procedures, accounting and balancing functions preferred but not required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to deal with external clients as well as internal staff.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to use discretion when dealing with sensitive or confidential data.
  • Ability to work effectively with other CU*Answers teams.
  • Ability to operate telephone, photocopier, fax machines and PC workstation.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Embrace and adhere to the company mission and the seven cooperative principles of a cooperative.
  • Ability to supervise staff and manage department goals.
  • Ability to make solid, sound decisions in stressful situations.
  • Ability to travel by auto or plane to multiple locations throughout the United States including but not limited to client sites, other building locations, general errands, etc. This travel could be multiple times per day, once daily, weekly, monthly, or annually.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record.
